Attica High School
3338 East Main Street, Attica, NY
Our St. Paul’s Relay For Life team would like to thank St. Paul’s for their help and support with our recent Chicken BBQ. The team raised $1,337.50 on the bbq and another $505 on the basket raffle. The tremendous support that we continually get from our congregation on this mission of curing cancer is greatly appreciated. To date, our team has raised approximately $7,250!!!
Relay For Life is an annual event in Wyoming County where teams sign up to participate. Participation is defined as fundraising and team members take turns walking around the track for the entire event – because cancer never sleeps. The event is in Attica this year, at the high school football field, on June 11 – 12 with the opening ceremony beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Luminaria ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. and is something you don’t want to miss. And the closing ceremony is at 6:00 a.m. There are many fun filled activities going on all day and night including special themed laps, a chicken bbq, reverse bingo, and Zumba to name a few. You don’t have to join our team to attend the event. Just stop by and visit with us. It’s ALWAYS nice to have company at Relay.
Money raised from this event is used to help transport patients to and from treatment, it helps fund Hope Lodge near Roswell where patients or family who live outside the community can stay during treatment, it provides wigs for those who have lost their hair during treatment, and funds patient advocates at Roswell, along with many other things. It’s a worthy cause and one that we believe strongly in.
Thank you again for your help and support. I hope to see you on Saturday the 11th of June.

We don’t face cancer alone and neither should you. We come together every year at more than 5,200 community Relay For Life events around the country and celebrate those individuals who are winning the fight. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest support group for survivors and their caregivers.
A cancer survivor is defined by the American Cancer Society as anyone who is living with cancer, from the date of diagnosis. If you have ever heard the words, "You have cancer," we invite you to participate as a survivor.
Whether you’re a survivor or caregiver, getting involved in your local Relay For Life event can introduce you to others who are facing the same challenges, and provide opportunities for learning, sharing, and friendship
What is a Relay for Life weekend?
- Organized, overnight community fundraising walk
- Teams of people camp out around a track
- Members of each team take turns walking around the track
- Food, games and activities provide entertainment and build camaraderie
- Family-friendly environment for the entire community
Luminaria
Relay For Life participants and donors remember loved ones lost to cancer and honor those battling the disease by dedicating luminaria bags.
Luminaria bags are transformed and illuminated after dark at every local Relay For Life event. Each luminaria is personalized with a name, photo, message or drawing in memory or honor of a friend or loved one who has been affected by cancer. Luminaria can also be dedicated in support of a Relay participant. Each luminaria candle represents a person. They are our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, coworkers, and so many others.
St. Paul's Team
2016 marks the 9th annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Wyoming County and St. Paul's 8th year participating.
Our team, every year, consists not only of congregation members, but many friends too.
Church members come visit to keep us company and walk with us.
Our first year, 2009, there was an awful rain storm at the Perry Racetrack . Our team, though not involved in the trenches of planning and preparing the event, was deeply instrumental in setting up for the luminaria ceremony. That's well over 1,000 luminaria bags, each filled with sand & a candle and lit. The next year we were asked to chair the luminaria committee.
We have seen our church's banner destroyed by rain and a new one emerged, designed by us and it is proudly carried at every relay.
We've received rewards for being up all night, for having the true relay spirit, and for having the most team members at relay throughout the entire event.
Each year, we have incrementally raised more money for The American Cancer Society than the previous year. In 2012, we reached Gold Level for raising $5,882 - the highest fundraising team of that year. In 2013 we reached Platinum Level by raising $7,891. In 2014 we reached Gold level, raising $7,080. In 2015 we reached our highest level yet, Jade, raising $10, 802!
